MY WISH
by L. E. Homfray
Oh! could I hope that words of mine
One thought expressed by tongue or pen,
Might bring a moment’s joy or peace
Across the restless hearts of men.
Could I but bring to one poor life
A gleam of God’s eternal light,
Or, with a tender word of praise
Lead one weak erring soul aright.
Could I with any words of hope
Bring home to one despairing heart,
The love of Christ that pardons all,
His mercy which shall ne’er depart.
Ah! then my soul, though still bereft
Of much that others love and prize,
Shall see above its earthly trials
A crown of blessing in disguise.
