More than one century has passed since then, as modern Bohemia grew on the territory of ancient Bohemia, but the name "Bohemian glass" or "Bohemian crystal" has survived to this day. Famous crystal products from the Czech Republic are famous for their durability and overflow of colors in the light. The history of Bohemian glass is very ancient and rooted in the Celtic era.
The first glass-blowing workshops mentioned in the annals appear in the mountains (Sumava, Karkonoszy), where wood for stoves was cheap due to the abundance of forests. Already in the Middle Ages, Czech glass was delivered to France, Flanders, Germany. The main rivals of Czech glass-blowers were Venetians who knew how to make extremely clean soda needed to make clear glass. In the 17th century, the Bohemian master Michael Müller received a recipe containing lead oxide and other additives, thanks to which the glass acquired transparency and so appeared the famous Bohemian crystal.
