To understand the diversity of Eric Shepherd's art, one has to be introduced into his background.

Eric’s passion for art and wildlife started at an early age when, as a child, he would play in the forests of Derbyshire, England, seeking out bird’s nests, or just watching a kingfisher darting back and forth to its nest as he sat on the bank of a pond fishing with his friends.

After leaving school Eric took up the trade of sign writing, where he was taught the skills of pictorial signage, gilding, and gold leafing

At the age of 22 he was assigned the position of Manager in the Graphic Design Studio for a large UK fashion house, in which, hand painted posters, screen printing, and litho printing became part of his skills.

Some 12 yrs later Eric later returned to the sign industry, to form his own company in the decorative art of Sign Advertising, painting murals and Amusement Park Machinery,
in 1976 Eric was contracted to work in Sarasota, Florida USA to paint huge 20 x 10 ft murals for the Film, and Movie Industry including the restoration of Victorian Amusement Park Machines, for the 'Ringling Circus', and the 'Believe it or Not' entertainment companies, with the contract lasting some 10 months.

In 1981 Eric and his family moved to Australia, again forming his own company producing Sign Advertising for the launching of Video Stores around Victoria.

A few years later Eric was approached my JB-Hi to start promoting their franchise, for their new company, at which time only consisted of 2 stores, growing over the years, to what we see today,

Fourteen years later Eric decided to concentrate totally on the art of painting the Australian fauna, and its surroundings, and became a member of the Wildlife Art Society of Australasia, where he received many of the top awards in their Annual Art Shows.

Reproductions of is work can be found on calendars, and greetings cards throughout Australia, and the world

His latest commission being for “Maxwell Williams” producing two series of painting called 'Birds of Australia' and  'Birds of the World', both of which are reproduced on their fine bone china, and Table Ware

Now painting many diverse subjects, Eric believes every painting should tell a story, he hopes the viewer will in some way be inspired, as he was when he decided to proceed with each painting.

He hopes that his works will portray the beautiful world around us all.

His work is now held in many private collections around the world, providing the serious collector with a cherished work of art.
