THE SUMMER WIND
by Fay Shaw Owens-Kinsey
LIGHTLY BLOWS THE SUMMER WIND
SOFTLY THROUGH HER HAIR.
IT WARMS HER FACE AND BODY;
SHE'LL RELAX WITHOUT A CARE.
SHE DREAMS OF A SUMMER LOVE
SHARED ON THE BEACH LONG AGO.
SHE REMEMBERS EVERY SECOND
BY THE OCEAN WITH HER BEAU.
THE TENDERNESS OF HIS WORDS.
HIS CARESSES AND HIS KISS.
THEY MADE A PERFECT COUPLE.
THEIR LOVE YOU COULDN'T MISS.
THEY WALKED THE BEACH, HAND IN HAND
BENEATH THE SUMMER SUN.
THEY SHARED SO MANY 'I LOVE YOUS'.
EACH KNEW THE OTHER WAS THE ONE.
SUMMER WINDS BLEW GENTLY.
WARM SAND AND SALTY AIR.
EVERYONE WHO SAW THEM
KNEW LOVE WAS THEIRS TO SHARE.
WHEN THE SUMMER FOUND ITS END
THEY KNEW THEY MUST GO HOME.
EACH LEFT WITH THEIR FAMILIES
AND FELT SO ALL ALONE.
YEARS WENT BY, ONE BY ONE.
AND STILL, SHE SEES HIS FACE.
HER FIRST LOVE, A LASTING LOVE.
MEMORY LOCKED IT ALL IN PLACE.
LIGHTLY BLOWS THE SUMMER WIND
SOFTLY THROUGH HER GRAYING HAIR.
SHE SMILES AS SHE REMEMBERS.
AND DREAMS WITHOUT A CARE.
